Raqeeb (3) Isn’t making enough making enough blood to survive.

Raqeeb Palm, was diagnosed with Aplastic Aneamia in October 2016, at just three years old. Raqeeb is from Heideveld (Athlone area) Western Cape.

After noticing unusual bruising on his body his mother, Zaida Palm had the doctors run a few tests to find out the root of the problem, the results from the blood test shocked the lab technicians so much so that they re-did the test to make sure there wasn’t an error.

To their dismay, the initial lab results were correct, confirming Zaida’s fears as a mother, that something was indeed terribly wrong with her little boy.

After a platelets transfusion and two bone marrow biopsys over a 2 month period, Raqeeb, received the prognosis that would alter his reality indefinitely; at just 3 years old Raqeeb was diagnosed with Aplastic Anaemia (Bone Marrow Failure).

Doctors at The Red Cross Children’s Hospital explained that Raqeeb’s platelets were only 6 units, whereas 120 units is the minimum required for a healthy individual. His blood system is operating at only 20% capacity and that he essentially isn’t making enough blood to survive.

Raqeeb’s family was advised that a bone marrow transplant would be the best option to save his life, only to be informed by the South African Bone Marrow Registry that there is unfortunately no match for him in South Africa at this present time and that international donors would have to be investigated, an option their medical aid refuses to cover.

This is the road that lead this family to crowdfunding with http://www.Backabuddy.co.za. Zaida describes that it’s been a difficult journey thus far, but with every obstacle seemingly waiting around the corner, her son has kept her positive and has given her the strength to fight with everything she has.

Zaida says, “He greets life with a smile every morning and is the joker of his household; he spreads laugher and love wherever he goes and is a true symbol of bravery.”

Zaida is urging the public to please support her Backabuddy campaign to save her son’s life as he has so many things to learn and so many experiences still to have. The funds generated will go towards securing a bone marrow transplant for Raqeeb overseas.

Backabuddy supporters have fallen in love with this little boy and shown tremendous interest in his journey. Thus far raised R 100 689.52 has been towards Raqeeb’s humble fundraising target of R 200 000.00.
